Quarterly meeting
pic

Seymour Land Conservation Trust will be holding it's quarterly meeting on Monday October 19th at 7:00 pm at the Henry Hamel Environmental building.

Below is a brief description of the presentation that Christina J. Kocer will be doing for the Seymour Land Trust on Monday October 19 at 7pm.

An Emerging Threat: White-Nose Syndrome and Connecticut's Bats Christina J. Kocer - CT Department of Environmental Protection, Wildlife Division

Since the advent of the horror film, bats have been constantly used to set a creepy mood, their erratic flying and sharp teeth exaggerated and used to frighten us, and, Halloween would not be the same without their image. This portrayal has given these fascinating creatures an undeserved bad reputation. Bats are actually extremely beneficial creatures that should be welcomed and not feared. And, bats need our respect now, more than ever. Throughout the past 2 years, bats are being faced with the largest ecological disaster of our time. White-Nose Syndrome has been killing hundreds of thousands of bats throughout the northeast and is spreading at unprecedented rates. This presentation has been designed to provide some general information about bats of Connecticut, clear up many common misconceptions, and provide some information about what White-Nose Syndrome is, it's extremely rapid spread, and what is being done about it.

Volunteer Help Needed.

We can only achieve success if individuals continue to step forward to assist in our programs. We need volunteers to help with our December fireworks and visit from Santa. There are also a number of annual events that a helpful hand is welcome at. We encourage everyone to donate a little of your time to help the Seymour Land Trust continue to offer our members and general public access to our facilities and events. Please visit our Volunteer Contact Page for more information on how to participate.
